Health Benefits of Tea

 Health Benefits of Tea

Tea contains high levels of antioxidants, some of which are called polyphenols, flavonoids, and catechins, and all of which take on the “free radicals” in the body and prevent them from harming your healthy cells.

In other words, when you send in antioxidants, you are observing disease prevention in its finest form. Drinking tea has been shown to cut the risk of cancers, reduce cholesterol levels,  prevent blood clotting, and more.  In fact, tea ranks higher than most vegetables in the ORAC score, a score which measures the antioxidant potential of plant-based foods.

Tea has been found in study after study to help with heart disease, allergies, Alzheimer's disease, cancers, immune boosting, and helps fight viruses.  If that were not enough, tea also contains fluoride which benefits your teeth and has bacteria killing properties which helps control bad breath and the formation of plaque.

White Tea has more antioxidants than any other tea, and Green Tea has more antioxidants than Black Tea. This is because Black Tea goes through more processing than Green Tea.

What about the caffeine in tea?

Tea has less caffeine than coffee and sodas, however, if you are trying to forgo all caffeine, consider switching to tisanes.  Coffee contains 80mg. of caffeine, while Black Tea contains 40 mg. of caffeine.  Black Tea contains the most caffeine of all of the teas.

Is fresh better than bottled, commercial, and powdered tea mixes?
