What is an herbal infusion?
An herbal infusion is made by steeping or soaking a tea or tisane in a liquid, usually hot or boiling water. It is usually made with the 'light material' (e.g. herbs, flowers, leaves).
What tools do I need to make an infusion?
Making an infusion is simple. All you need is a tea cup (6- 8oz.), boiling water, an infuser (strainer, net, tea bag), and your tea or tisane mixture. You can also add a touch of stevia, honey, syrups, and such for your taste and enjoyment. If you are making a teapot's worth, adjust the amount of boiling water and your tea or tisane mixture accordingly.
How to make an infusion:
Place 2 Tbsp. of your tea or tisane into the infuser of your choice and place into your cup. Pour boiling water over infuser and allow it to steep in the hot water for 3-5 minutes. If you are brewing with strong herbs, or if you want to make a lighter infusion, you can decrease the steeping time to 2 minutes. You can make individual infusions, which are consumed immediately, or you can brew a larger batch and drink throughout the day.
Store unused tea or tisane infusion in refrigerator and use within 24 hours.
