Our Packaging

Shade Tree Cottage believes in being good stewards with the bounty of the Earth. For us, that means that whenever possible, we incorporate recycled, biodegradable, and reusable materials into our operations and packaging.

We package our soaps in 100% recycled kraft paper and printed paper that utilizes soy based inks. The soap paper we use is made from recycled paper and organic vegetable cellulose.

We package our Mineral Salts, Organic Bath Teas, and Botanical Milk Baths in 100% recycled glass, and our jars come with an attached tag instead of a label, making it easy for you to reuse our lovely jars in any way you like. You can buy refill packs of Shade Tree Cottage products and refill them, use them in homemade gift baskets, use them to store herbs and spices, buttons or pins for quilting, or fill with potpourri and use as a beautiful decoration.

Our refill packs for our Mineral Salts, Organic Bath Teas, and Botanical Milk Baths are packaged in 100% biodegradable vegetable cellulose bags instead of petroleum based polypropelene. They all include a muslin bag made from 100% organic unbleached cotton.

Our pre-made tea bags are made using tea bags that are unbleached, and are whitened using hydrogen peroxide. Our convenient pre-made products are packaged in tinted country kraft bags that are made using recycled paper (35% post-consumer) and tinted using all-natural dyes or soy based inks.

Shade Tree Cottage uses recycled corrugated cardboard as well as 100% recycled; 60% post consumer for its shipping boxes, mailers, and bubble mailers. Our protective packaging materials are 100% biodegradable peanuts, recycled styrofoam packaging from other dealers and companies, recycled post-consumer newsprint,  and 100% recycled butcher paper.

We also have changed our shipping company to Fed Ex, who we applaud as taking ‘green’ initiatives in their company such as a fleet of biodiesel trucks, reusable mailing envelopes, and renewable source power supplies.

We are a ‘green’ company that is always searching for better ways to incorporate simplicity, sustainability, and stewardship to our business and our life.
